”We’ve Had More Believe As The Season Goes On” Sterling
- Updated: April 1, 2014
Raheem Sterling insists Liverpool are ready to reach for the sky…even if his feet are still firmly planted on the ground.
The winger believes incredulous Kopites, who can hardly comprehend the extent of an Anfield transformation this season, can now dare to dream of an unlikely title triumph.
A tidal wave of confidence and optimism has swept through the club during a remarkable, unbeaten, table-topping run in 2014, that has placed the chance to be Champions now firmly in their own hands.
The England star will refuse to be swept along by the excited frenzy which greeted Sunday’s demolition of Spurs, but he admits there is a growing sense of the impossible becoming a remarkable reality.
Asked if he was daring to dream of a first-ever Premier League title for Liverpool after almost a quarter of a century of trying, he responded: “Definitely. As the season has been going on, we have had more belief.
“It’s all to dream about. We all know what the dream is and we are all working to make the dream a reality. Hopefully we will do it, and there is a really good atmosphere around the training camp.
“There is a real belief amongst the fans, a real togetherness with the fans and the players. It’s a really good atmosphere and long may it continue.”
One of the most remarkable aspects of the display against Spurs, was the freedom with which Liverpool played, and the apparent pressure they felt even with the chance to go top and fire a powerful title message.
Sterling summed that up with a wonderful performance brimming with confidence and belief, and he insisted the players are being carried along on the back of a remarkable Anfield atmosphere.
The youngster too, believes their rivals Manchester City and Chelsea will feel a genuine sense of fear having to visit the famous stadium, with Liverpool turning it into the fortress of old.
“Of the remaining games, it is going to be difficult against those two, but I think we will fancy ourselves against anyone coming here,” he explained
