Another ”Crash” Sets Arsenal Back
- Updated: March 26, 2014
Shortly after comparing the six-goal humiliation at Chelsea to a car crash, Arsene Wenger climbed back behind the wheel and drove into another accident as Arsenal were forced to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates by visiting Swansea City.
Eleven minutes was all it took for Wilfried Bony to out-jump Thomas Vermaelen and head Swansea into the lead at Arsenal and render Wenger’s pre-match brag about focus and a good start in Tuesday’s Premier League tie with the visitors.
For 70 minutes it looked more like his players meant to embarrass the Frenchman with listless display which upset even the most loyal Arsenal fans.
The Gunners seemed to forget all their waepons in the armoury as they were easily unzipped by out-of-form Swansea, trailed for an hour as impatience and frustration set in inside the Emirates.
However, the introduction of out-of favour Grmany striker Lukas Podolski turned the game in just seconds as the striker nudged in an equaliser after a beautiful cross into the penalty box by Kierran Gibbs.
Swansea surrendered the ball cheaply from the restart and were hit with a second within a minute when Podolski, again charged down the left to set up Olivier Giroud.
But Swansea levelled in the final seconds with a freak own goal from Mathieu Flamini who kicked a rebound into his own net after a Wojciech Szczesny save. It could have been worse.
The visitors were understandably furious when referee Lee Probert ended the game with Jonathan de Guzman clean through on goal for what could have been the winner for the visitors.
