Yuletide: Price Of Food Items Hike In Bauchi
Latest Headlines, News From The State Monday, December 22nd, 2014Audu Limun, Bauchi – Price of food items in various markets in Bauchi state have gone up as the Christmas and New Year celebrations draw nearer.
A market survey conducted by African Examiner correspondent in Bauchi, North-East, Nigeria shows that the prices grain, rice, beverages, perishables and wines have gone up.
While at the Wunti, Muda Lawal and central market revealed that a bag of rice is now sold for N10, 000 to N11,000 depending on the brand as against the N9,000, while the price of bean also increased from N11,000 to N13000 per bag.
Also, it was observed that price of tomatoes had also raised as a basket now goes for N4, 0000 to N5,000 as against the old price of N3,500 while chicken now sells for between N1,500 to N2,000 depending on the size.
A business man who operates a super market in one the Markets attributed the rising cost of food items to various factors apart from the Yuletide season saying, “the usual end of the year rush and Christmas celebrations might not be ruled out but the situation is worsened by high cost of transportation to move the items from one part of the country to another.”
