World Cup: Ethiopia must fall, Tambuwal says
Sports News Sunday, October 6th, 2013Super Eagles’ Brazil 2014 World Cup play-off against Ethiopia is a must win because next year’s showpiece event wont be complete without Nigeria, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said.
In that regard, the National Assembly will do all that is necessary to ensure the success of the Stephen Keshi-led national team.
Speaking when he received members of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club led by the President-General, Dr Rafi’u Oladipo, Tambuwal said the focus of the House of Representatives is not only to ensure Eagles’ qualification to the Mundial, but to ensure that Nigeria performe wonders in Brazil.
A statement by Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, quote the Speaker as saying that all necessary support would be given to the team to esnure success.
“Let me assure you and all Nigerians, that we in the House will continue to provide the necessary support through appropriation and other legislative mechanisms to boost the fortunes of Nigerian football in particular and sports in general,” he said.
Tambuwal described sport as a unifying factor in the country, and enjoined Nigerians to continue to use it to promote unity and harmony among diverse peoples of Nigeria.
He equally commended the Nigerian Football Supporters Club for their resilience and sacrifice which he said have spurred our various national teams to victory over the years.
