Woman In Hot Soup For Operating Illegal Maternity Home, Child Trafficking

Mrs. Comfort Osuabu, a middle aged woman, was on Monday apprehended by the Police Anti Robbery squad of the Aba Area Command, Abia state, for allegedly operating an illegal maternity home popularly known as “Osu Abuwa” mainly being allegedly used for child trafficking.
The illegal maternity is located at Umuabuwa community in Osisioma council area of Abia state.
Osuabu according to sources had been allegedly engaging in child trafficking as well as using the maternity to harbor pregnant teenagers whose babies will be sold off on delivery.
African Examiner also learnt that during police raid, a heavily pregnant lady, who gave her name as Miss Ozichi Chinasa, and a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Iheanacho were arrested over alleged plans to buy a yet to be delivered baby of another pregnant lady, Chidinma Okeke at the maternity home.
The couple who have been childless 18years after wedlock, were alleged to have arranged with the proprietor of the home to buy Chidinma’s baby on delivery when police, acting on a tip off raided the home leading to the rescue of Ozichi Chinasa, among others
However, as at the time of filing this report, unconfirmed reports had it that Chidinma had put to bed to a baby boy at an undisclosed hospital in the city.
Abia state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Geoffrey Ogbonna, when contacted, said he was not aware of the incident, but a senior police officer in the Command, who pleaded anonymity, said that the couple on interrogation confessed to the crime, pleading that they were tempted into the unholy act because of frustration of childlessness 18years after wedlock.
