Vidal’s £47m United Deal Edges Closer, as Chilean Passes Medical

Arturo Vidal’s move to Manchester United edged closer after his agent jetted into the UK to finalise a switch to Old Trafford.

Chilean newspaper El Mercurio claimed earlier this week that Vidal has already verbally agreed to join United, who will smash their transfer record by stumping up £47m to bring him to the club.

132023It is also understood United have tabled a four-year £120,000-a-week deal, which will double the 27-year-old’s current salary.

Vidal’s representative, Fernando Felicevich, held crunch talks with Juventus on Monday and demanded they match United’s lucrative offer or let the Chile World Cup star leave.

The Serie A champions are unwilling to break the bank to keep the midfielder in Turin and Felicevich, according to reports, has now flown into Manchester to put the finishing touches on a switch to United.

Report shows that Vidal has already passed a medical ahead of the mega-money switch to Manchester.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who has been tasked with pursuing new manager Louis Van Gaal’s top targets, left the club’s pre-season tour of America late last month to concentrate on concluding a deal for Vidal.

Woodward has been busy in the transfer market this summer, spending in the region of £60m on England left-back Luke Shaw and Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera.

Despite splashing the cash on Shaw and Herrera, Woodward assured supporters last week that the club were not finished spending and that they have the funds to smash the world transfer record.

Van Gaal has been desperate to make Vidal his marquee signing of the summer, although, if the deal is concluded, it will not overtake the current world record outlay set by Gareth Bale’s £86m move to Real Madrid.

However the £47m fee paid for Vidal would soar above United’s previous biggest outlay set by Juan Mata’s £37.1m arrival from Chelsea in January.
