Varsity Don Urges FG To Include Private Universities In TETFUND
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Saturday, April 24th, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Dean, Faculty of Law, Delta State University Abraka, South- South Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Edu, has expressed displeasure over the non-inclusion of Nigeria’s private Universities in the nation’s interventionist agency, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
He therefore, urged the federal government to integrate such Universities in the system as a way of assisting them, stressing that there should be no opposition between government and private owned universities in Nigeria.
Professor Edu, stated this , while delivering a lecture titled “charting the course for the progress in Nigeria University education at the 14th Matriculation Ceremony of the Renaissance University Ugbawka, Enugu state, South- East Nigeria.
According to the University Don, both the public and private universities produce students for the Nigeria labour force and as such there should be no dichotomy.
In his speech earlier , Vice Chancellor VC) of the University, Professor Thaddeus Eze, had thanked the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for graciously extending the period of Admission to Nigerian universities up to June, 2021.
He disclosed that admission into Renaissance would continue after matriculation as a makeup of lost grounds to the pressure of Covid-19.
The VC congratulated the matriculating students, saying that choosing to study in Renaissance is one of the wisest choices they ever made, noting that the school is strong in building the academic, moral and character formation of its students.
He hinted that plans are afoot by the school management to create new departments and faculties so as to make affordable and qualitative education to more deserving students .
Also speaking at the event, the Pro- Chancellor of the University, Mr Jude Ishienyi, charged the students to imbibe the enduring virtues of discipline, good conduct, and self-reliance and admonished them to shun truancy, absenteeism, examination misconduct, and cultism.
Chancellor of the University, who is also the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical province of the Anglican Church, Most Rev. (Dr) Emmanuel Okusa Chukwuma expressed delight that a flagship private university in the Southeast that had been under his watch since 2005 have grown in leaps and bounds producing high quality manpower that is always in high demand in the country.
He however, commended the Academic and non Academic staff of the institution for their avowed commitment, dedication and sacrifice to duty, urging them to keep up with the good works.
African Examiner reports the Highlights of the ceremony was taking of oath of allegiance and good behaviour by over a hundred first year students, display and sale of products produced by the entrepreneurial Department of the institution cultural dances performed by the students, amongst other activities.
