Van Gaal Faces Opening Day Selection Dilema, as Injuries Rule Out 7 Utd Players against Swansea
Latest Headlines, News, Sports News Saturday, August 16th, 2014Louis Van Gaal is facing a major selection crisis ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener against Swansea at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman, who is expected to make a winning start to ease the pressure on him to deliver as he looks to turn United into champions again, will make his Premier League debut as the Red Devils’ boss without seven injured stars.
Those unavailable include new £30m signing Luke Shaw, Robin Van Persie, Jonny Evans, Danny Welbeck, Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick.
Van Gaal’s preparations have been thrown into turmoil before a ball has even been kicked.
The pressure is also mounting on chief executive Ed Woodward to make more signings before the transfer window closes.
United started the summer boasting about having unlimited funds to spend and that breaking the world transfer record was within their powers.
But so far just two major signings have arrived in the shape of Shaw and Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera.
United are still hoping to land Mats Hummels, Arturo Vidal and Marcos Rojo before the end of the month but the clock is ticking and fans are becoming impatient.
