Staff of the Federal Ministry Of Information Monday protested against the immediate past Minister of Information, Labaran Maku over his alleged embezzlement of their allowances.
The minister was billed to formally hand over on Monday to the officer to oversee the ministry pending the appointment of another minister.
Maku was among the ministers who resigned last week from President Goodluck Jonathan cabinet following his interest in the governorship of his state, Nasarawa.
But enraged staff of the ministry who felt that the minister had short changed them by diverting their sundry allowances embarked on protest to embarrass Maku.
Consequently, their protest halted the already scheduled handover ceremony because they prevented people from entering or going out of the ministry.
One of the workers who spoke in confidence said that they do not want Maku to hand over until they get assurances that their allowances would be paid.
It is not yet known at press time whether the workers could be pacified to allow the erstwhile minister to perform his hand over ceremony.
Labaran Maku resigns as minister of information to enable him contest the 2015 governorship election in Nassarawa under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
