Two Die, Many Injured As Hoodlums Attack Police Station In Oyo
Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Wednesday, September 28th, 2022(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – A Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and a suspect in custody were killed during an attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Iganna in Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State on Wednesday by hoodlums.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating the Divisional Police officer (DPO) of the station (name withheld) and a Police Inspector sustained severe machete cuts during the attack.
Oyo Police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement noted the Commissioner of Police Adebowale Williams has ordered investigations into the matter with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) leading the team.
He said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that in compliance to the stop and search directives on unregistered motorcycles and overcrowded pillions to reduce the spate of robberies and abductions in the axis.”
“Operatives of the Command attached to Iganna Divisional Police Headquarters while on legitimate duties along Elekankan-Igangan road, Iwajowa LGA were attacked by hoodlums who were clearly opposed not only to the directive but as well the relative tranquility in the axis.”
