Troubled Anambra PDP Suffers Another Set Back As over 1,000 Members Decamp To APGA
Latest Headlines, News, News From The State Thursday, August 6th, 2015By IGNATIUS OKPARA, Awka – The crisis- ridden Anambra state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday suffer another major set back, as over 1,000 of its members dumped the party for the ruling All Progress Grand Alliance, APGA in the state.
AFRICAN EXAMINER reports that the PDP members made their decision known at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members of APGA state executive committee (Exco) in Awka, the state capital.
Mr. Uchenna Umerie, one of the defectors, and a one time legislator in the state, in his remarks said he decided to dump the PDP for APGA because the administration of Governor Willie Obiano was doing marvellously well.
The ex- lawmaker, said he could no longer cope with the lingering crisis bedeviling PDP in the state.
Also speaking, Mr Tokas Ohazuluike, a serving PDP member in the state House of Assembly, representing Ihiala constituency, said he and his supporters had no option than to join hands with the APGA led administration to build the state.
Receiving the defectors, National chairman of APGA, Dr. Victor Oye, had welcomed them into the party, and promised a level playing ground for everybody.
According to him, the formal swearing-in of the new leadership of the party was to give them legal backing to perform their function as contained in the party’s constitution.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, who welcomed the new entrants into APGA, described the event as ‘Pentecost’ and urged the new leadership to perform their duties with boldness and conviction.’
He however, enjoined them to spread the message of unity and love to all members of the party, assuring of them of his administration’s support at all times.
