Tribunal Orders Fresh Poll In 18 LGs Of Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has ordered a fresh election in 18 out of 31 local government Council areas of the South South state.

The Tribunal admitted the plea of the petitioner and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, that the Saturday April 11, 2015 poll was marred with many irregularities.

Consequently, the Tribunal’s Chairman, Justice Sadiq Umar, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a re-run in the affected LG areas.

The first respondent in the petition is the candidate of the opposition PDP candidate and incumbent Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
