Tragedy: 2 Die In Underground Fuel Tank In Lagos

Two male adults have died in a confined underground fuel tank at Berger area of Lagos, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, (LASEMA) has confirmed.
The deceased have been identified as Adekunle Ipaye and another nicknamed ‘United.’ The two died on Good Friday.
LASEMA Spokesperson, Mr. Michael Akindele, said Investigation conducted by by the agency’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), at the accident scene, disclosed that the two victims died as result of suffocation and gas emission inside the underground tank at about 6:10am today.
Akindele, added that the victims were carrying out underground cleaning and renovation of the tank of a petrol station (Fatgbems) located at Oando bus-stop Berger when the tragedy occurred.
He said the Lagos State Fire Services and LASEMA’s ERTrecovered the bodies of the two victims who were confirmed dead.
He also hinted that the bodies have been evacuated by State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit to the Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary.
Tthe police from Ojodu Police Station and the Lagos State Ambulance Services, LASAMBUS Akindele confirmed were also on ground.
He stated that proper investigation would be conducted to ascertain what led to the incident, while warning contractors to use right equipment and also adhere to other safety precautions while carrying out underground cleaning and other duties.
