Sunday 19/11/2017 – BREAKING NEWS: INEC Officially Declares Obiano, Winner of Anambra Governorship Election

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Governor Willy Obiano of All progressive Grand Alliance, APGA has been declared winner of the gubernatorial election held in Anambra state, on Saturday 18th, November 2017, after polling a total 234,071 votes.
His closest rival, Dr. Tony Nwoye, of All progressive Congress APC scored a total of 98,752 votes, while candidate of the People’s Democratic party, PDP, Oseloka Obaze garnered 70,293 votes to clinch the position.
African Examiner reports that a total of 2,641,134 people registered for the poll, while 448,771 votes were casts during the election, just as as 22,314 votes were valid.
He won by a landslide in all the 21 council areas of the state, including those of his key opponents,Tony Nwoye of the All progressive congress, APC, Oseloka Obaze of PDP and Osita Chidoka of United peoples party, UPP .
Announcing the result officially Sunday at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s INEC headquarters in Awka the Anambra state capital, returning officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar, (UNICAL) Professor Zana Apkatu said “haven’t scored the highest number of valid votes, and satisfied the requirement by law, Willy Maduabuchi Obiano of APGA is declared winner of the election, and he is hereby returned.

Saturday 18/11/2017 – Anambra Decides: Obiano Thrashes Ngige, Obi, Obaze, Chidoka in their LGAs
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Minister of Labour and Employment , Dr. Chris Ngige, immediate past governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi, and peoples Democratic party PDP candidate , Chief Osaeloka Obaze, have lost in their respective local government areas in the governorship election held in Anambra state on Saturday.
Also humiliated in his council area Idemili North, is the United People’s party, UPP candidate, chief Osita Chidoka.
The All progressive Grand Alliance APGA candidate and incumbent governor of the state, chief Willy Obiano, won in all the 11 out of the 21 local government areas announced so far by the returning officers for the various local governments.
While Ngige, hails from Alor in Idemili South council area, Obi is from Anaocha local government.
The PDP candidate, Obaze is from Ogbaru local government area,
Obiano won landslide in all the 11 council areas released so far.

Saturday 18/11/2017 – Anambra Decides: Governor Obiano Cruising to Landslide Victory
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Governor Willy Obiano of All progressive Grand Alliance, APGA is leading comfortably in Saturday’s gubernatorial election held in Anambra state.
He won by a landslide in all the five council areas so far officially announced by the election local government returning officers at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s INEC headquarters in Awka the Anambra state capital .

Saturday 18/11/2017 – BREAKING: APGA Candidate, Willy Obiano Cruising to Victory in Anambra Election
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Governor Willy Obiano of All progressive Grand Alliance, APGA is cruising to victory in today’s Anambra gubernatorial election.
Unofficial reports indicate that he won in all the polling units so far concluded.
The official declaration of the results by the Independent National Electoral commission is being awaited.

Saturday 18/11/2017 – Anambra Poll: Police Apprehend APGA Agent Over Alleged Monetary Inducement

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP, in Anambra state has accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and All Progressives Congress APC, agents of compromising eligible electorates in the state with monetary inducements.
It alleged that the two parties were bribing voters between N2000 and N2, 500 each to sway their voting choice.
However, luck ran out of one of the alleged APGA vote buyer, as he was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, for attempting to pay voters in one of the polling units in Anambra South senatorial district.
There was a scene at the political ward of the candidate of APC, Dr. Tony Nwoye when a middle aged man suspected to be working for APGA made an attempt but resulted to violence, yet, security operatives at the polling unit quickly brought the situation under control and voting continued.
Our Correspondent reports that the card readers functioned without hitch, just as most polling units in Aguleri in Anambra East zone witnessed large turnout of voters.

Saturday 18/11/2017 – I’ll Win by a Landslide, Obiano Boasts
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra state has voted in today’s (Saturday) gubernatorial election in Anambra state, expressing confident that he will win the election by a landslide.
He voted at about 9:49 am at his Eri primary school Otuocha ward 1 in Aguleri , Anambra East council area of the state after being accredited by the electoral officers.
Speaking with newsmen, shortly after voting, Obiano who is seeking re-election under his party, the All progressive Grand Alliance ,APGA expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls so far.
He said “I am very confident that at the end of the day I will carry the day. I will win the election, in a landslide
“There is nothing to worry about at this point”, calling on his supporters to come out enmass to vote for him.
Our Correspondent covering the election reports that the exercise is witnessing large turnout of voters, especially in Anambra East senatorial district, where the governor and candidate of APC, Dr, Tony Nwoye hails from.
Voting has commenced in earnest in parts of the state.

Saturday 17/18/2017 – All is Set for Anambra Guber Poll, Accreditation Under Way
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – All is now set for today’s (Saturday) governorship election in Anambra state South East Nigeria, as the entire city of Awka the state capital and its environ, now look deserted.
Our Correspondent covering the election reports that there are heavy security presence in every nook and
crannies of the state.
Accreditation is expected to begin from 8 am in the 21 local government areas of the state.
Major roads within the state, including the busy Enugu Onitsha expressway have been barricaded by heavily armed security personnel.
Key contestants in the election includes, the incumbent governor, Willy Obiano of All progressive Grand Alliance, APGA , Dr. Tony Nwoye of All progressive Congress APC, chief Osita Chidoka of United progressive party, UPP and Godwin Ezeemo of Progressive peoples Alliance PPA.
However, at Nkwele-Ezunakaa, community in Oyi council area of the state, youths were busy playing football in the major road, as at the time of filing this report, saying they are not interested in the election, because “we are IPOB members.

Friday, 17/11/2017 – Anambra Guber: Tension in Anambra as Police Recover Two Bombs in Onitsha

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Tension has enveloped Anambra state, South East Nigeria, as the police on Friday recovered two high caliber improvised explosive devices (IED’s) near the Onitsha North Police Station.
The disaster which could have wrecked havoc in the commercial city was discovered few hours to the governorship election scheduled to hold on Saturday .
Our Correspondent gathered that a distress call was put across to men of the Nigerian Police Anti-bomb squad who swiftly responded and cordoned off the entire vicinity.
The policemen, under the Supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Joshak Habila demobilised and evacuated the IEDs.
African Examiner reports that the incident which occurred in the afternoon has heightened tension in parts of the state, and may likely affect the turnout of voters in tomorrow’s poll .

Friday, 17/11/2017 – INEC Begins Distribution Of Electoral Materials In Anambra

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra state, Southeast Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the distribution of sensitive electoral materials to various council areas in the state.
The commission said it took delivery of the sensitive materials on Thursday at the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN branch in Awka, the Anambra state capital from where it was moved amid tight security to the commission’s headquarters.
Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, the resident electoral commissioner, (REC) in charge of the state, told newsmen on Friday that the materials were inspected by officials of the commission, representatives of political parties, and accredited election observers before the commencement of distribution.
He disclosed that local Government Areas in the state would be clustered into five groups based on the distance,terrain, and voter registration density, adding that the council Areas that are farther from the state capital, Awka, and those with more difficult terrains, large voter populations will received their materials before the others.
African Examiner Correspondent covering the election reports that security has been beefed up in parts of the state especially the roads leading to the INEC office.
Heavily armed security men made up of Nigeria police, DSS, and the NSCDC are stationed at strategic locations .
No fewer than 26, 000 police personnel were deployed to the state by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alahaji Idris Ibrahim, for the polls which begins on Saturday with voters accreditation. .
