Tension In Ebonyi Community As Irate Youths Kill Man For Stealing Motorcycle

ABAKALIKI NIGERIA, (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Tension is yet to calm down in Afikpo community in Ebonyi state, south East Nigeria, following weekend’s lynching to death of a motorcycle operator, by irate youths in the area who accused the deceased of stealing a motorcycle.
The deceased, identified as Ikechukwu Uroh, was beaten to death for allegedly stealing a motorcycle belonging to one Ikechukwu Evo.
Mr. Uroh, who hails from Amasiri community in the locality, had conveyed a passenger to Ehugbo, a neighbouring community in the area, when Mr. Evo saw him and raised the alarm that the motorcycle was his missing bike.
The alarm our correspondent gathered, immediately attracted youths of the area who came out in their numbers and descended on the deceased.
According to the state police public Relations officer, PPRO George Anyanwu, who confirmed the incident, said “his alarm immediately prompted the youths of the area to attack him,”.
He added that on getting the information, “the police rushed to the scene and rescued the victim and rushed him to hospital where he died.
Anyanwu, disclosed that the police had already launched a manhunt for the killers of the deceased, including Mr. Evo who raised the alarm.
Reacting to the incident, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Afikpo North council Area, Mr. Oko Enyum, who condemned the act, said youth of Amasiri had mobilised for reprisal attack but his urgent intervention brought the matter under control.
The council boss however, assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book by security operatives.
