Tension has gripped residents of Onitsha in Anambra state following an alarm raised by the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB , alleging that members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, are plotting to bomb the popular Onitsha main market and others within the South-East geo-political zone of Nigeria.
To this end, members of the movement have vowed to resist any attempt by the faceless group to perpetrate such terrorism in any part of Igbo land which they also regard as Biafra land.
Addressing newsmen on the development, MASSOB National Director of Information, Mr. Uchenna Madu said the plot was discovered by their intelligence and security groups.
Madu added that “it is even possible that some of the Nigerian security agents would have equally perceived such an information.
The MASSOB spokesman therefore, warned that should the insurgents attempt to execute the plot, whether successful or not, “we would have no other option than to remove our non-violence posture and wear the violence garb for a revenge mission.
In his reaction to the rumour, the Onitsha Area police Commander, Mr. Benjamin Wordu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police said he is yet to receive such information, assuring the residents of the area to go about their normal businesses without fear.
