The Governor Wily Obiano led government in Anambra state on Thursday declared war on tax invaders in the area, as it sealed-off a total of 35 buildings in the industrial town of Nnewi over refusal of its owners to pay property rate amounting to N150 million naira.
Some of the affected buildings included commercial banks, hotels, business plazas, filling stations, hospitals, residential homes as well as private primary and secondary schools.
Speaking with newsmen, during the exercise, the Head, Human Resources and Administration, Anambra Property and Land Use Charge (APLUC), Mrs Chinenye Okafor , explained that the closure followed various court judgments obtained against the tax evaders.
She however, warned other tax evaders in the state to start doing the right thing or be ready to face the wrath of government.
