Taskforce Arrests 34 Hoodlums In Lagos
Latest Headlines, News From The State Thursday, May 21st, 2015At least, 34 hoodlums have been arrested in Oshodi area of Lagos, Nigeria when the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit stormed the area in a fresh raid.
There have been incessant complain about resurgence of hoodlums in Oshodi before and after the last election.
Taskforce officials raided Oshodi on Wednesday afternoon hauling them into the Black Maria for onward journey to the taskforce office in Alausa.
Nine of the arrested hoodlums were underage children. Two suspects were however released after being found innocent after screening.
Bayo Sulaiman,Taskforce Chairman disclosed that the hoodlums were arrested with hard drugs, such as weeds and stun in large quantity.
According to him, the taskforce got information that a woman was attacked earlier in the day by hoodlums at Oshodi and has been admitted in the hospital, which prompted it to swing into action.
Sulaiman said there had been incessant complain by residents of Oshodi over disturbance by hoodlums, saying that government would not allow the hoodlums to return to Oshodi it cleared some years ago.
“Whenever we raid them like that, some of the hoodlums will go into hiding for sometimes. We are still very much in Oshodi and there was no time our men left there,” he said, warning hoodlums to vacate Oshodi as the police would go after them and bring them to book.
“We deliberately slowed down our activities in Oshodi during the election period so that they would not accuse taskforce of taking sides with any political party. Now that the elections are over, the taskforce will swing into action to ensure that there is sanity in Oshodi,” he said.
