Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly says the decision of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal to aspire for the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) cannot in any way destroy the unity of the party.
Speaking at an empowerment programme for constituents, he said the APC is committed to ensuring it wrests power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2015 presidential election.
Ashafa said he is sure that the multiplicity of the party’s presidential candidates is not only a plus for the party, but shows the quality at its disposal.
“APC has the best of leaders in all those that are vying for the presidential race. One of them will be our flag bearer at the presidential election. You might think it will break the party if they chose one of them, no, it will never ever happen. We have to free Nigeria from the shackles of poverty, poverty brought to us by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). That is why our symbol is the broom which is to sweep out rubbish from our country,” he said.
Addressing party faithful who turned out in large number for the empowerment programme held at the Centre for Management Development (CMD) ground, Ikosi-Ketu, Ashafa said a total of 17,395 party members who are artisans, traders, farmers, students and other less privileged people benefited from various items distributed at previous programmes.
Ashafa added that apart from the weekly empowerment of indigent residents of his constituency and in line with his party’s focus on improving the lives of the people, several projects in the 76 constituencies in the district have been executed.
