The Nigerian Army has confirmed that one soldier has been killed while two are missing during several speed boats attacks on troops deployed to Efut Esighi waterfront in Bakassi LGA of Cross River State.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel, Sani Kukasheka Usman indicated that the suspected militants were led by the declared wanted criminal kingpin, Benjamin Simplee (AKA G1) leader of the Bakassi Strike Force.
The Army Spokesperson confirmed that the militants also burnt a buffalo pickup vehicle.
He however said troops killed two of the attackers while the rest escaped with gunshot wounds.
‘’However, the reinforcement sent have found the missing soldiers. In addition, the troops’ location has been reinforced with more gunboats and air component. The clearance and pursuit operation is ongoing’’ the Army informed.
In the meantime, the Nigerian Army has warned all the suspected criminal elements in the society with intent to attack any of its locations to have a rethink.
