SURE-P Scandal: Ex-Perm Sec, Nkechi Ejele Under EFCC’s Investigation
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Thursday, November 19th, 2015Former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Mrs. Nkechi Ejele has been invited and being questioned by the anti-graft body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) over alleged financial impropriety.
Specifically, Mrs. Ejele is being investigated on the roles she played in the alleged misappropriation of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) money released to her former Ministry between 2013 and 2014.
The former Perm Sec, upon the invitation, arrived the EFCC headquarters around 10.00a m Thursday.
It would be recalled Mrs. Ejele was one of the 17 Perm Sec. relieved of their positions, a fortnight ago, by President Muhammadu Buhari. They were immediately replaced with the new career officers in their respective Ministries.
SURE-P is an initiative of the immediate past administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. It was meant to productively engage unemployed Nigerian Youths.
The programme has over the years, been subjected to various high scale scandals, including floating of Federal Task Force, which collected money from the job seekers and engaged them in many illegalities, but the jobs were never provided.
