Super Eagles Open Uyo Stadium With Victory Against Ghana
Latest Headlines, Sports News Friday, November 7th, 2014Emem Eduok scored the winning goal as Nigeria’s home based professional players beat their Ghanian counterparts 1-0 at the newly built Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo in a friendly match, tagged the Transformation Cup, on Friday.
Eduok, who was playing from the right wing scored the Super Eagles only goal in the 35th minutes with a powerful header, which completely beat Richard Ofori in goal for Ghana.
The visitors nearly got back into the game after goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim, fumbled a cross, leaving Samuel Afful with a golden chance to equalize, but the striker failed to take the opportunity.
The home based team was tutoured by Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi in the international friendly game organized to officially open the Uyo stadium also known as the Nest.
The African champions will will play their first major tournament at the stadium in a African Nations Cup qualifier against the Bafanabafana of South Africa.
