Wenger To Make Ivorien Defender His First Signing
- Updated: May 20, 2014
Arsenal are set to make Toulouse ace Serge Aurier their first signing of the Summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old left-back has been identified as the perfect replacement for departing defender Bacary Sagna, who looks certain to leave the north London club after talks over a new deal stalled.
The French defender had been offered a two-year extension of his current contract, worth £75,000 – a rise of £15,000 on his current pay.
But talks stumbled due to Sagna’s demands on wanting a three year deal at £100,000, plus a signing-on fee.
And with the 31-year-old is ready to join former team-mate Gael Clichy at Premier League champs Manchester City this summer on a four-year deal, Wenger is ready to snap up Aurier.
The Ivorian is valued at around £7m and has won rave reviews this season, being described as ‘the Dani Alves of Ligue 1’.
Aurier recently spoke about being linked with the Gunners, revealing: “You can’t refuse an offer from Arsenal.
“It would be a dream.”
