The home side romped into an early lead, but unlike the damaging Sunderland game, they managed to make their superiority count and avoided another upset.
Goals from Sergio Aguero and Martin Demichelis built on Pablo Zabaleta’s early opener while Graham Dorrans’ reply had the hosts worried for a short while.
But it’s onwards and upwards for City who controlled the second half with little trouble and will be hoping Chelsea leave Liverpool with the blues.
City still need a faultless run in, but you can bet all eyes will be on Anfield before Manuel Pellegrini’s men travel to Crystal Palace for the 4:10 kick-off.
At least they’re still in it – just. The only sour note for Pallegrini was David Silva leaving the pitch on a stretcher after an innocuous challenge midway through the second half.
It looked more precautionary than anything else but City fans will have their fingers crossed the Spaniard will be fine for their remaining four games.
