I’m Not Surprised at MK Dons Victory

Louis van Gaal says he is not surprised at Manchester United’s  Capital One Cup  embarrassing 4-0 defeat by third-tier MK Dons on Tuesday.

He points to a lengthy injury list and the quick turnaround from Sunday’s match then reminds fans he can’t build a team in just a few weeks

The Netherlands World Cup coach however,  urged United fans to keep faith with him – despite the humiliation by MK Dons.

The League One side subjected visitors United to one of the most embarrassing nights in their history by dumping them out of the competition before the clubs involved in Europe have even entered the fray.

But Van Gaal said he was not surprised the Old Trafford giants lost the match and insisted once again, as he had during pre-season when claiming it could be MONTHS before the penny drops for the players, that he needed more time to resolve the crisis-hit club’s fortunes.

“We had nine injuries and played again within 48 hours of Sunday’s 1-1 draw away to Sunderland. So I had to look at the second team and youth players for this match.

“It’s very difficult when you start as a manager in the Premier League with a home match loss, then a draw and you lose in a cup match.

“It’s difficult for the fans to believe in the philosophy of Louis Van Gaal but you have to do that because I’m here to build up a new team and a new team isn’t built in one month.”
