Gunners Reliable Defenders May Miss Allianz Arena Battle

Arsenal are anxiously waiting to hear good news concerning fitness level of two of their most reliable defender Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibs as they file out against Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Gibbs went off with a calf problem during the closing stages of the Gunners’ FA Cup  4-1 victory over Everton, while Koscielny, who  missed Saturday quarter final is still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered on international duty with France.

Both players missed training on Monday morning ahead of Arsenal’s afternoon flight to Germany.

Left-back is a problem area for Arsene Wenger as Nacho Monreal is struggling with a foot injury. If neither he or Gibbs are passed fit, Carl Jenkinson is likely to start in the Allianz Arena.

Arsene Wenger has said that Aaron Ramsey and Kim Kallstrom could be in contention for Sunday’s north London derby at Tottenham, but they could yet feature against the European champions.

Ramsey hurt his thigh against West Ham on Boxing Day before aggravating it in training, while Kallstrom, who has yet to play for Arsenal, is recovering from a micro fracture in his back.

Both players are believed to be very close to full fitness and could be thrown into the fray against Bayern.

The German giants have been in unstoppable form since their 2-0 first-leg victory at the Emirates.

Pep Guardiola’s side have recorded four-goal victories over Hannover and Schalke, and last weekend they defeated Wolfsburg 6-1 for a record 16th straight Bundesliga win.

Bayern sit 20 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, winning 22 of their 24 games and drawing the other two.
