City Manager Warns Players Against Villa And W/Ham
- Updated: May 4, 2014
Manuel Pellegrini has warned his Manchester City players that the Premier League title race is not finished yet, after their 3-2 win at Everton.
Pellegrini’s men claimed victory at Goodison Park and three crucial points to move them ahead of both Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for the championship, with all three sides having two matches left to play.
City lead Liverpool on goal difference, ahead of the Reds trip to Crystal Palace on Monday, with Chelsea – who meet Norwich on Sunday- two points behind.
But City, with home games to come against Aston Villa and West Ham, are now in pole position, but Pellegrini has warned his players against getting ahead of themselves.
“The worst thing we must do is think that today we finished the Premier League,” said the Chilean.
“We have to play Aston Villa and West Ham who are not fighting for anything, they can play without pressure.
“We must try to win our last two games at home, then we will see what happens.
“We won and at this moment the most important thing is to win. Today the pressure was maybe too high to play our best football.
“We played well until 3-2, maybe at that moment the team was a bit nervous.
“We started one goal down and we played good football to recover from that goal. We managed the game, we scored three and had chances.”
Ross Barkley opened the scoring for the Toffees, before Sergio Aguero levelled the scores. The Argentine would soon leave the field injured, however Pellegrini wouln’t be drawn with regards the severity of the problem, stating: “We’ll see tomorrow.”
Edin Dzeko netted a brace to put City 3-1 ahead, before Romelu Lukaku pulled one back later on.
