CHAN: Eagles force Pillars to 2-2 draw
- Updated: December 31, 2013
CHAN-bound Eagles forced league champions Kano Pillars to a 2-2 draw in a test game in Abuja on Monday.
Both teams gave a good account of themselves particularly in the first half with Azubuike Egwuekwe, Ugonna Uzochukwu and goalkeeper and skipper Chigozie Agbim the standout performers for the Eagles.
The Eagles took the lead through the towering Egwuekwe off a header, before the lively Bello Kofarmata drew Pillars level from the penalty spot soon after.
Pillars then went in front courtesy of a well-worked goal scored by skipper Mannir Ubale, before midfielder Rabiu Ali restored parity for the national team from close range before the interval.
There will be no goals in the second half, but both teams came close to adding to the tally.
Major injury doubts striker Gambo Mohammed and Yinka Adedeji did not feature for the Eagles as they are both nursing hamstring injuries.
Coach Stephen Keshi is expected to announce his final 23-man squad for next month’s CHAN on Tuesday.
