- Updated: February 1, 2014
Spanish champions, Barcelona suffered a shocking 2-3 home defeat at the hands of visiting Valencia.
Alexi Sanchez put Barca ahead early in the game with his 7th minute, but Dani Pajero equalised for Vallencia with just one minute before the break.
Pablo Piatti’s goal, which put the visitors ahead three minutes after resumption, was quickly cancelled nine minutes later through a spot-kick converted by Lionel Messi after an infringement in the 18 yard box.
Paco Alcacer sealed victory for Vallencia just on the hour-mark.
As if losing at home weren’t bad enough, Jordi Alba was sent off in the 78th minute for his second yellow card.
With Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid still to play this weekend, Barcacould end up in third place if both teams win their respective matches.
Vallencia were the last team to take points off Barcelona at Camp Nou other than Madrid in 43 games.
