Barcelona Star Turns Back on Liverpool, Shows Love For Gunners
- Updated: July 3, 2014
World Cup star Alexis Sanchez wants to join Arsenal – dropping a major problem into Liverpool’s negotiations with Barcelona over Luis Suarez.
The Anfield giants want £30m-rated Chile forward Sanchez from Barca as part of a £80m player-plus-cash deal that would take Uruguayan biter Suarez to the Nou Camp.
But Sanchez is understood to want a move to London, and in particular Arsenal – who have him on their hit-list of striker targets for this summer.
The Gunners have had discussions over a potential Sanchez deal but have yet to lodge an official bid with his Spanish club.
The north Londoners are also watching developments on strikers Loic Remy and Mario Balotelli of QPR and AC Milan respectively, but Sanchez would be a huge coup if they could pull it off.
A Barcelona delegation flew into London on Wednesday to meet Liverpool officials and the situation is progressing but is complicated by Sanchez’s reluctance to move to Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also keen on Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal but face strong competition from clubs including Manchester United.
The Gunners want to sign a top-class forward, a midfielder – Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin is a target there – and a right-back. Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy is on their wanted list for the latter spot – as we first revealed earlier last week.
