Barcelona Claims Luis Suarez Cost Them Less
- Updated: August 20, 2014
He said: “Suarez’s transfer cost £65m. Why? The price was mainly because of the great work by the directors and because of Suarez’s desire to come here.
“Negotiations started before the World Cup and we worked hard to come to a final figure of £65m. We were originally quoted over £72m.
“He had much better offers than ours financially but he wanted to come to Barcelona. He made a great effort – financially and personally – to be here.” Mestre added.
Suarez was finally unveiled as a Barca player yesterday, and vowed to make sure he never bites anyone again.
Suarez is still suspended from playing competitive club football until late October and cannot play for his country for another eight matches.
But he is no longer banned from “all football-related activities” and made his debut as a late sub in Barca’s 6-0 friendly win over Mexican side Club Leon on Monday.
