Argentina Striker Shakes off Injury In Readiness For Sunderland
- Updated: February 28, 2014
Sergio Aguero is in contention for Manchester City’s League Cup final against Senderland at Wembley after missing five games followinf a hamstring injury.
The Argentina striker, who has scored 26 goals this season sustained the injury during the 5-1 win at Tottenham on 29 January.
Aguero has however returned to training early this week as he looks forward to being part of the squad that will take on Sunderland for the battle for this season’s first trophy.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini refused to confirm whether Aguero would start against Sunderland but he is delighted to welcome him back into the squad.
“Of course it is very important for the team to have Sergio again with us because he is a very important player,” he said.
“It is something I must decide and see the way he recovers from the work this week, if he is 100 per cent fit after his injury, to play the whole match.”
Pellegrini will be without defender Matija Nastasic and striker Stevan Jovetic, though, after the duo were ruled out of the game through injury.
Nastasic is struggling with a knee problem, while £22m summer signing Jovetic came off the bench during last week’s Premier League win over Stoke only to be substituted again with a hamstring problem.
