United eye Mata as Mourinho recovers from operation
- Updated: January 21, 2014
Out-of-favour Chelsea player, Juan Mata who was left on the bench for the Blues’ 3-1 victory over the champions at Stamford Bridge on Sunday has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Reports in the UK are linking David Moyes with a £37million bid for the Spaniard.
Moyes has been linked with a host of potential targets in January, but former United defender Gary has openly criticized the decision to lure the Chelsea player striker.
Neville, who identified a number of young players who would fit his former club’s philosophy better than Mata said the amount was also outrageous.
“Does he fit with what I would call the typical philosophy of Manchester United? I would say no.” Neville said.
“The first question, I think, is where are you going to play? Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are up top if they are fit so where are you going to play him? Are you going to play him off the left or off the right?” He added.
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho who traveled to Paris for the operation after Sunday’s victory over the champions, will return to work on Tuesday.
Mourinho underwent a minor arthroscopic procedure on a long-standing elbow complaint on Monday.
The 50-year-old, thought to have aggravated an old childhood injury, will return to work on Tuesday as the side prepares for its FA Cup fourth-round clash with Stoke City on Sunday.
