Liverpool To Reward Rodgers With Over £70m Shopping Fee

Brendan Rodgers will be offered the biggest war-chest in the history of Liverpool FC as a reward for delivering the dream of Champions League football.

The league-leading Reds can finish no lower than third now, meaning their manager has delivered a place in the group stage of next season’s premier European competition well ahead of the schedule set by the club’s American owners.

And his prize will be at least £60million to spend – plus anything extra he raises from sales.

That would offer him a net transfer kitty beyond even the riches Kenny Dalglish and Rafa Benitez could call on in recent years.

Owner John Henry will place his complete faith in a manager he rates highly by also giving Rodgers a massive new contract in the summer – and with it a green light spend big to better prepare the club for a European adventure.

Players such as Pepe Reina, Sebastian Coates, Oussama Assaidi and Krisztian Adorjan, who are currently out on loan, will be allowed to leave, and could raise £5million.

Misfit forward Iago Aspas will be sold back to Spain for around the same fee, a year after joining from Celta Vigo.

Rodgers may also decide to cash in on defenders Daniel Agger and Jose Enrique if he can find suitable buyers.

All that could raise his transfer pot well beyond £70m to add depth to a group while will also welcome back forwards Fabio Borini and Suso from successful loan periods at Sunderland and Almeria.

His first priority will be a return to Ukrainian club Dnipro to try to finally clinch the deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka that stalled on deadkine day in January.

Rodgers will also be looking for another attacking midfield threat. Last summer’s target Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the agenda, even though he snubbed the Kop to join Borussia Dortmund.

There will at least two big-money, big-wages signings in forward positions, and those two top Rodgers’ list.

Beyond that, he will hope to make at least three more signings in defensive positions.
