Liverpool Striker Tips Argentina For The World Cup

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez says he is turning his attention to the World Cup after the disappointment of falling short in the title race.

Speculation continues to surround the future of the 27-year-old as he prepares to lead the line for Uruguay in Brazil, where he will face England, Italy and Costa Rica in Group D.

Suarez topped the Premier League goal-scoring charts this season after finding the net 31 times and he has since picked up numerous awards in recognition of his outstanding season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side finished two points behind eventual champions Manchester City, but Suarez, who has been repeatedly linked to Real Madrid and Barcelona, is hoping to put that heartache behind him in the summer.

“I am already focused on the World Cup,” he said. “I had a great season with Liverpool but other feelings don’t matter now.”

Asked who he was expecting to challenge for the trophy, Suarez replied: “Argentina, because they have great players and they arrive in a good moment, but we can’t ignore Uruguay, Spain, England or Germany, because a World Cup is a competition in which everyone wants to have success.”

Earlier in the day, Suarez refused to be drawn on speculation that Barcelona or Real could lure him away from Anfield in the summer.

Suarez signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal with Liverpool in December, but reports in the press suggest it included the option for a move to either Spanish club, if they bid a certain amount.

The Uruguayan has denied the inclusion of this clause and insists he has already made a decision about his future.

When asked about interest from the Spanish giants, he said: “I don’t want to answer that. I try to avoid press speculation.

“I know what I want and what my agent says is good for me, but I don’t want to comment on speculation.”

Discussing his deal, he added: “I didn’t sign any contract with clauses prioritising a certain team.”
