”I want To Add Something To Tottenham” De Boer

Frank De Boer wants talks with Tottenham after claiming he’s been approached about becoming their new manager.

The Ajax boss has just guided his side to the Dutch league title for the f0urth time in a row and is looking for a new challenge.

Monaco are also monitoring his situation, but the 43-year-old hinted he is more interested in taking over at White Hart Lane.

“Spurs have made an approach. After the last league game I’ll think about it. I’ll talk to them and listen what they have to say” De Boer said.

“Then I’ll make my feelings known. I want to add something to a club, so that people can say that they see the hand of Frank de Boer.

“Liverpool are a good example of this with Brendan Rodgers.

“I see a opportunities at Tottenham. Just as Liverpool and Newcastle, they are sleeping giants.”

De Boer has guided Amsterdam giants Ajax to four straight league titles

Sources at Spurs insist no official move has been made, but De Boer is now understood to be the leading candidate to take over from Tim Sherwood this summer.

De Boer insists the Londoners first approached Ajax about him three weeks ago when it became clear Louis Van Gaal – previously favourite to move to White Hart Lane in the summer – was instead a top target for Manchester United.

Former Barcelona and Ajax defender De Boer is highly rated across Europe and was linked with Liverpool before Rodgers took over in 2012.

Meanwhile, fears are growing that Tottenham winger Andros Townsend may need an operation on his injured ankle which could rule him out of the World Cup.

Townsend went for an MRI scan on Monday and saw specialists yesterday but is still waiting for results that will indicate how long he could be out for.

The 22-year-old came on for the last 12 minutes of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Stoke, but left the stadium wearing a protective boot.

His England place was already in jeopardy after a disappointing season.
