Mignolet Wants Liverpool Fans To Calm Down
- Updated: April 29, 2014
Mignolet says Liverpool must win their last two games to keep up the pressure on title rivals Man City.
City now just need to win their remaining three games to secure their second championship in three years.
The Liverpool goalkeeper said: “There are two games to play and we need to look at them. We now start working towards Crystal Palace.
“We go the last two games as we have played this season. There are still many games to play for us, Manchester City and Chelsea.
“The only thing we can do is stay calm and try to bring the last matches of the season to a successful conclusion and play like we played all season.”
The defeat to Jose Mourinho’s side left Anfield deflated on Sunday as their hopes of a first title since 1990 slipped out of their own control.
City visit Everton on Saturday with Liverpool’s neighbours still having a slim chance of overhauling Arsenal in the race to the top four.
“The only thing we can do is stay calm and try to bring the last matches of the season to a successful conclusion and play like we played all season” Mignolet said.
But Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is still full of belief that his side can achieve their dream this season.
He said: “Our objective is for ourselves. We now need to win the two games and see where it takes us.
“Then we will be fine. The players have been absolutely fantastic. We’ll now focus on Crystal Palace and see where that takes us.
“I said how proud I was of them after Chelsea, because they were absolutely fantastic.
“We’ve been on a run of games and the games that we’ve won have been exceptional.
Rodgers has sympathy with Liverpool skipper Gerrard after his error in Sunday’s loss to Chelsea.
“But we’ll take that on the chin. This is a great group of players, a very honest group, and we’ll continue to work on.”
Rodgers is also confident captain Steven Gerrard will not suffer any confidence issues after his slip allowed Demba Ba in to get Chelsea’s first goal on Sunday.
He added: “We were hoping that one or two could step up to the plate instead of him. We just couldn’t do that for the team or him.
“There is certainly no blame. We are in this position because of him, he has been instrumental for us.
“This is a guy that is so strong mentally and probably a bit frustrated. But he showed his courage in the game and still got on the ball.”
