Manchester United To Sack Moyes As Boss
- Updated: April 21, 2014
The troubled Scot is expected to be given a stay of execution until the end of the season, unless the Glazers decide to act sooner.
The American billionaires have been left shocked by the rapid decline of the team this season.
The Premier League champions have lost 11 league games and languish in seventh place in the table.
United are even struggling to secure a place in the Europa League and Moyes’s brief reign has turned into a disaster.
The Glazers have backed Moyes up until now but Sunday’s loss at Goodison Park was the final straw.
Louis van Gaal, the Holland and former Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Ajax coach, has been linked with the post.
Other contenders to replace Moyes include Jurgen Klopp, Laurent Blanc and Diego Simeone.
The former Everton boss was hand picked by Fergie last summer following his decision to retire.
But Moyes has struggled to cope with one of the biggest jobs in world football and has looked out of his depth.
United have had one of the worst seasons in their history amid allegations the players have not bought into Moyes’s training methods and future plans.
Moyes inherited a team that won the title last season and he has also signed Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini for a combined £63m.
But United have gone backwards at a rapid rate of knots and are guaranteed their lowest ever Premier League points total and worst finish since 1990.
Moyes signed a six-year-deal last summer worth £5m-a-season but a clause in it means United bosses won’t have to give him full compensation.
