Chelsea’s Tittle Hopes Fades As Liverpool Player Scores Record Goal For Sunderland

A late late penalty by a player on loan from Liverpool, Fabio Borini gave Sunderland a 2-1 victory at Chelsea, giving Brendan Rodgers’ side a brilliant chance of their first Premier League title.

Chelsea scored first with Samuel Eto’o’s volley on 12 minutes, and six minutes later Sunderland equalised through Connor Wickham.

Controversy followed when Ramires was stopped from heading into an empty net when Sebastian Larson barged into him. Ramires retaliated seconds later, going unpunished for an elbow into Sebastian Larsson’s face. Ramires will surely be punished retrospectively.

In the second half, Chelsea plainly missed Eden Hazard as they struggled to make a breakthrough. Eto’o sent a great opportunity just wide of the post, and Ba slipped when it was easier to score.

On 82 minutes, Borini converted a penalty after Jozy Altidore was brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta. A minute later Rui Faria was off for sustained invective aimed at Mike Dean. Liverpool are now clear favourites for the Premier League; Sunderland are still bottom.
