”It’s About Hard work And Concentration” Rodgers

Liverpool have moved to the top of the Premier League with an emphatic 4-0 win over Spurs at Anfield Sunday.

The Merseysiders are two points clear of Chelsea and four ahead of Manchester City, who do have two games in hand.

But both teams have to visit Anfield next month and, when asked if the pressure is now on them, Liverpool boss Rodgers replied: “I believe so.

“I don’t think anyone expected us to be where we are now after finishing eighth and seventh in the last few seasons.

“For me, it is about the process, about simple hard work and concentration. There are only 18 points to play for but you can only take three at a time”.

“There are some great teams up there and world class managers but we just do what we can do. We go into every game to win, but what has been great to see has been the idea and methodology of our work.

“For us, the mantra has always been to focus on the next game – we never get too carried away. But it’s very difficult because lots of people are dreaming about winning the title.

“For me, it is about the process, about simple hard work and concentration. There are only 18 points to play for but you can only take three at a time.”

Strikes from Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and a Younes Kaboul own goal brought Liverpool their eighth Premier League win on the bounce.

It has raised hopes of them lifting the title for the first time since 1990 and the players received a standing ovation from the crowd at the final whistle.

Rodgers said: “The fans are appreciating what they are seeing. They can see it was a long winter and a tough period over 20-odd years.

“Now they can see something building here, not just for now but for the future.

“We had real dominance right from the first whistle against Spurs. It was an exceptional performance in which we did everything we have been working towards in the last year-and-a-half.

“Without the ball, that hunger and intensity to get it back and our dominance in possession was very impressive, trying to tire Tottenham out.

“Then we had the penetration and opened up Tottenham in a game that was very good for us. I thought our supporters were brilliant.”

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood watched the game from the directors’ box because of a self-imposed touchline ban in a bid to remain calm during the game.
