Barca Force Real Sociedad To Set A Derby Cup Final With Madrid
- Updated: February 13, 2014
Barcelona advanced to the Copa del Rey final courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Anoeta with Real Sociedad to book a final date with Real Madrid.
La Blaugrana dominated the ball and played some seriously slick stuff; they justly took the lead before half-time as Lionel Messi dribbled 40 metres before firing a powerful effort into the bottom corner.
The visitors missed a glut of chances in the second half, and Antoine Griezmann’s wonderstrike proved solely a consolation.
Real Sociedad come to life in the final four minutes, but they finished miles behind (1-3) on aggregate. Barcelona eased this one.
Whichever team wins the Copa del Rey, it will be a first major trophy for their coach in Spanish football. Carlo Ancelotti was named Real boss in the summer, with Gerardo Martino taking over at Barcelona.
Barcelona will play Real Madrid at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue on 19 April.
