South-East Governors Forum Mourns Akunyili, Justice Oputa And Emir of Kano, Ade Bayero
Latest Headlines, News, News From The State Sunday, June 8th, 2014The south east Governors forum on sunday expressed shock and deep sorrow over the sudden demise of former Minister of information, professor Dora Akunyili.
The former Director- General of National Agency for food Drug Administration and control NAFDAC passed on last saturday in far away India during a protracted cancer related ailment.
Besides, the governors, also expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the families of late retired supreme court judge, Justice Chuwudiefu Oputa of Imo state, and the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ade Bayero, as well as the governments and people of both states.
Briefing newsmen shortly at the end of their marathon meeting held at the Enugu government house, chairman of the forum and governor of Abia state, chief Theodore Orji, described the demise of the three distinguished Nigerians as painful and shocking.
He said ” we commiserate with the families of Late Justice chukwudifu Oputa, Late Professor Dora Akunyili and the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero”.
The forum also condemned in strong terms the recent attempt by a pro Biafran group, named Biafran Zionist Movement(BZM) to declare the republic of Biafra in Enugu.
“We condemned the attempt by the so called Biafra Zionist Federation led by one Benjamin Igwe Onwuka, who earlier attempted to gain entry into government house, for the purpose of hoisting their flag and for invading the ESBS on Thursday, 5th June, 2014 in an attempt to take over the media house and declare the state of Biafra”
Orji hinted that the forum equally resolved that states within the south east geo political zone would continue to collaborate with each other in the area of security.
On the ongoing National conference in Abuja, he said they also agreed to further support delegates from the Zone in view of the extension of the CONFAB.
The meeting was graced by Enugu state governor, Sullivan Chime, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi, and deputy governors of Imo and Anambra States.
