South East Governors Condemn Attack On Uzodinmma’s House

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The South East Governors forum on Sunday condemned the recent attack on Governor Hope Uzodinmma’s country home in Omuma, Oru East Council area of Imo state, by

unknown gunmen, calling on the federal government to fish out and prosecute the perpetrators.

African Examiner gathered that unknown armed men had in the early hours of Saturday, attacked the governor’s residence in his Community, killing two security men attached to the house as well as set several vehicles parked in the premises ablaze.

Rising from its security meeting with South East Clergy, leadership of apex Igbo Socio cultural body, Ohaneze Ndigbo, religious and traditional rulers as well as South East joint Security Committee, the governors said “we sympathize with him and call on the federal government to fish out the perpetrators, and ensure their prosecution.

The governors in a eight point Communiqué read to newsmen by Chairman of the forum and governor of Ebonyi state, Chief David Umahi, restated their resolve to adopt a regional common joint Security outfit, codenamed: “EbubeAgu” with its operational headquarters in Enugu.

EbubeAgu, “will work with the police and other security agencies in her operations to protect lives and properties in South- East.

“We agreed on the structure and operational modalities of EbubeAgu and to set an Advisory Board for the security outfit.

According to the Communiqué, “the Attorney Generals and Commissioner for Justice of the South East states have been directed to work with the joint Security Committee to come up with the amendment of the existing state laws to reflect the new EbubeAgu outfit.

The meeting equally directed the Ohaneze Ndigbo president to immediately form two Committees,: South East peace and reconciliation Committee to engage our people for the peace and security of our people and her visitors

The other Committee will be strategy and welfare Committee to engage and protect our people, especially those who are being unfairly treated” adding that the Committees must become functional within the next ten days from date.

On the issue of clamour for restructuring, the Igbo leaders supported the call, as well as state police and other national issues, ” as discussed in the last NEC meeting, hinting that a Committee has been set up to work out acceptable modalities and submit to NEC in its next meeting .

The South East leaders, also restate their commitments to our state laws banning open grazing in the South East, and urge the security agencies and local vigilantes to enforce the ban in all the states of South East .

It said “South East Governors agreed on the implementation of various ENDSARs youth empowerment programs in the South East zone as soon as possible .

The meeting was attended by governors of Ebonyi, Dave Umahi, that of Enugu, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and their Abia counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu.
