Soldiers Destroys Illegal Crude Oil Reservoir in Abia Community

Soldiers attached to the 144 Battalion, under 14 Brigade Ohafia, have destroyed an illegal crude oil reservoirs owned by pipeline vandals, and located in a swamp in Umuelechi village in Ukwa West council Area of Abia state.
The operation which lasted for several hours on Monday was carried out in conjunction with members of the Joint Task Force.
Though no arrest was made, the security operatives had during the exercise also destroyed materials suspected to be used by the vandals in loading the consignment into a waiting truck.
Speaking to newsmen on the operation, the Commanding Officer, 144 Battalion, Asa, Lt. Col. Kasim Umar Sidi, said operatives of the 144 Battalion, led by Captain. Sampson Ademola, got wind of the reservoirs after intelligence revealed that some yet-to-be identified persons were carrying out such illicit act in the area.
Our Correspondent recalled that the area has been synonymous with notorious pipeline vandalizalism, despite the presence of combined team of security agencies guiding the pipeline and checkmating the activities of vandals across communities where petroleum pipelines pass through.
The 144 Commanding officer, confirmed that no arrest has been made so far,adding that the team were collaborating with sister security organizations to ensure that the culprits are apprehended.
