Sit-At-Home: Customers Stranded As Banks, Markets, Offices Fail To Open In Imo

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Customers on Monday were stranded as banks failed to open in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State.

This is even as markets, schools, eateries, shopping malls and supermarkets also failed to open for the day.

Our correspondent who monitored the situation around the state capital saw bank customers stranded at Bank Road, a place many banks are located in the state capital.

The ever-busy government house roundabouts, Imo State University junction, Control Post junction and warehouse roundabout were deserted.

Apart from pharmacy shops that operated in full scare, businesses operated on a low key in the state capital.

A resident, Sixtus Obinna, who spoke to our correspondent  said that it was unfortunate that people were still sitting at home after the Indigenous People of Biafra had suspended the weekly sit-at-home order.

Obinna said that the continuation of the sit-at-home was affecting the economy of the people of the South-East region.

A newspaper vendor, who identified himself simply as Shege, told our correspondent that the people of the region would continue to protest until Nnamdi Kanu was released from detention by the Federal Government.

He said that though people didn’t come out to buy newspapers, he had no regrets that he was standing in solidarity with Kanu.

He said that the people of the region would continue to protest until they got their due from the federal government.
