Despite the notice and positive expectation, President Goodluck did not turn up after all, for meeting with the #BringBackOurGirls protesters, slated for Tuesday morning in FCT Abuja.
As early as possible, on Tuesday, security in Abuja was beefed up as the combination of Policemen and military attached to the Brigade of Guards were seen stationed at the two main entrances of the Presidential Villa.
The protesters led by Dr Oby Ezekwesili scheduled the rally to take off from the Unity Fountain, march through the Federal Secretariat, then to the Presidential Villa. But the rally could not hold in the morning apparently due to unexpected security development.
Eventually, the group filed out in the afternoon and staged a procession towards the Presidential villa. They were however stopped by the security operatives on Yakubu Gowon Crescent and received a team of Ministers who gave them audience, just like the first meeting.
The Ministers who attended included that for Women Affairs, Hajia Zainab Maina, Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe, Environment, Mrs Laurentia Mallam, as well as Lands and Housing, Mrs Akon Eyakenyi.
