Senate To Swear-in New Niger East Senator This Week

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) candidate for Niger East Senatorial district bye-election, Dr Shem Nuhu Zagbayi was on Sunday declared winner of the bye election.
According to final result announced by the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof Wole Moreniekeji, the PDP candidate polled 92,056 votes while the APC candidate, Barrister David Umaru came second with 87,405 votes, followed by Bello Isa of APGA with 2185 votes and SDP candidate, Abdulahi Diko had the lowest votes-419.
It would be recalled that INEC declared August 30 bye-election in Niger East Senatorial district inconclusive and fixed September 6 for fresh election in some areas in 6 out 9 local government areas in Niger East.
Zagbayi will complete the tenure of former occupant of the seat, Senator Dahiru Awaisu who died early this year.
The newly senator, Shem Nuhu Zagbayi was born in 1956, he was a former deputy governor in the state.
He is expected to resume duty at the senate this week after his swearing-in by Senate President, David Mark.
