BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Chairman, Senate Adhoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye, on Monday said the upper chamber will resume from its six weeks break Tuesday.
Melaye also dispelled speculation of a likely postponement of the resumption. He said the Senate will commence legislative activities and thus set to welcome communication including President Muhammadu Buhari’s much awaited ministerial list.
He also stated that the Senate is committed to always do only those things that would promote the unity, prosperity and wellbeing of the Nigerian people.
He allayed fear of any possible breakdown of law and order saying that “there will be no stormy session in the Senate on resumption as being peddled by a section of the media since both the leadership of the upper chamber and all Senators are at peace among themselves and are focussed on working for the betterment of the country at all times”.
Melaye in the statement in Abuja said: “I want to confirm that the Senate will resume tomorrow (Tuesday) and that we are set to carry out all our legislative responsibilities.
“I also want to use this opportunity to announce the resolve of the Senate, to do only those things that will promote the unity, prosperity and wellbeing of the Nigerian people.”
The Senate spokesperson also stated that the present challenges confronting the red chamber would be surmounted.
He added: “We are willing and ready to receive all communication from Mr. President and we will act accordingly. We once again reiterate our allegiance to the Nigerian people.”
