Senate Fingers Buhari’s Minister, 4 Banks In MTN Illegal $13.9Bn Capital Flight

ABUJA, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Senate on Tuesday received narration on how a serving Minister of Trade and Investments, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah with the active connivance of 4 commercial Banks aided the telecommunications giant, the MTN repatriated $13.9 billion illegally out of the country.
Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Dino Melaye, had last week blew the lid open through a motion he raised under matters of public importance.
He therefore promised Senators more details of how MTN escaped with the money at the plenary this week.
At today’s (Tuesday) sitting, Melaye disclosed that aside the Minister, the Banks that involved in the deal included Stanbic IBTC, Standard Chartered, Citi Bank and Diamond Bank.
The Senate therefore directed its committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial instructions to probe the allegation and report back within four weeks.
