Senate Confirms New INEC Boss, Mahmud Yakubu

Professor Mahmud Yakubu has been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The upper Chamber Thursday also confirmed the newly appointed National Electoral Commissioners, including the immediate past acting INEC Chairman, Hajia Amina Zakari from the North Western Nigeria. Others approved were: Baba Shettima, (North East); Anthonia Okoosi-Simbine, (North Central); Mr. Soyebi Adedeji Solomon (South West) and Mohammed Mustafa-Lecky.
Yakubu, is a Professor of Political History and International Studies, as well as a former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
The new INEC helmsman was the Assistant Secretary, (Finance and Administration) at the 2014 National Conference.
During his screening, Prof. Yakubu promised to conduct credible and transparent elections, all through his tenure as the INEC boss.
It would be recalled Professor Attahiru Jega’s successor was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari last Thursday.
